Do you ever just tell yourself you’ll go to bed at 2:30 but then you look over and it’s 2:31 so you have to wait until 3:00 and then you look over and it’s 3:01 and so you have to wait until it’s 3:30 and then you
this seven year old girl got half an arm (just like lusie in the gifs) 3d printed and it only cost $50
can we just compare that with the average price of buying a prosthetic
3d printing is gonna help so many people holy crap
No no no, guys, this gif set leaves out the literal best stuff from the video.
So a few years back, this guy who accidentally cut off his fingers, teamed up with a special effects artist/puppeteer and created a 3D printable prosthetic hand, that used the movement of the wearer to be able to grab things. The guys who did this said they were just going to post the schematics online, which in turn lead to creating a network of people with 3D printers, who were willing to print prosthetics for people. The network of volunteers, turned into an organization that gives prosthetic arms/hands to kids who need them. They have science types improving the designs and creating new ones, they got a grant from Google, classrooms and scout troops are getting involved and making prosthetic hands for people.
Everything about this is amazing.
It’s stuff like this that makes technology awesome :’)
STOP making posts that say, “If you scroll past this, you have no heart!” or, “You’re a monster if you scroll past this.” As someone with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, this really triggers me and harms me.
As someone else with OCD I wanna chime into say that posts like “reblog or you’ll have your worst week” or “like and reblog or your mom will die” also really trigger me and directly tie into my obsessions. If you MUST reblog them at least tag them as reblog bait! And stop tagging reblog games as reblog bait instead, tag them as reblog games!!! So people can properly blacklist what they do and don’t wanna see because those are both very different!
What people without OCD don’t understand is that even though we know it’s not real, we take those posts seriously, even the “good” ones like “Reblog money cat for money” or something can seriously fuck with our OCD. It leads to horrible panic attacks and giving into compulsions. If you wanna help us out please PLEASE tag reblog bait of all kinds.
Holy fucking shit is this important or what!! I’m going to do my best to remember to tag like this from now on
can i just chime in that i have hyperempathy as a part of my autism and it makes it really hard to scroll past those “you’re a bad person if you don’t reblog” type things without getting MAJOR anxiety about it. like even if its good content that deserves to be rb’d, don’t guilt people into it
I don’t know which disorder is causing my problems with this, but yes, please do not guilt people into reblogging things. It mostly doesn’t even help your post to be noticed – a positive approach is better for everybody, in (almost) every situation. From what I heard, those guilt-based strategies are annoying to people who don’t have any mental problems too.
Surprisingly, nobody likes to be guilted into something.
something shocking happens that affects both Sam n Dean equally yet only Dean gets a closeup reaction shot
Sam spends a scene literally blurred into the background
a recurring character who’s close to both boys hugs Dean but not Sam
Sam flinches in response to Dean’s behaviour
take two sips when:
Sam is forced to work with someone who hurt him; if no one bothers to ask how he feels about this, down the glass; if the person in question is Lucifer, down the bottle
Dean is casually cruel to Sam/dismissive of his suffering (e.g. “’smores foot” etc.)
Dean’s shitty actions are justified by the narrative while Sam doing something not nearly comparable is demonised; if Dean’s shitty actions are justified by another character, down the glass
a new recurring character is introduced and is closer to Dean than Sam
one of Sam’s like five friends fucking dies; if said friend is a woman, down the glass
someone makes a rape joke to Sam; if said person is Lucifer, down the glass
down the glass when:
sam is sexually assaulted
sam’s agency is violated
sam doesn’t stand up for himself even though he really should
sam justifies the actions of people who have hurt him
down the bottle when:
sam doing something completely normal and healthy to preserve his own physical or mental wellbeing (e.g. going to college) is treated as a betrayal of Dean
fandom calls Sam “arrogant” or “selfish” for no reason; if they do this while bending over backwards to defend Dean, smash the bottle over your head and welcome the sweet embrace of unconsciousness,
Ben and Jerry’s isn’t making an empty advertising gesture. They company has supported Bernie Sanders, and made an ice cream flavor to raise awareness of global warming. They run progressive news stories on their websites and social media. They pay their workers a living wage. Even their brownies are sourced from a company that specializes in hiring people out of jail to help them get their lives back on track. They’re open supporters of socialism. I understand the idea of “no ethical consumption” but Ben and Jerry’s isn’t just adopting a political message for nothing.
Hey you guys wanna see something sad? Watch FMAB Episode 54!!
Here, we see Greedling shook to his core over Edward extending an invitation to join up with him and his ragtag chimeras. Why?
Ed goes right for the fucking jugular, calling him out. He knows Greedling is just gonna go piss off somewhere and bide his sweet time until the Promised Day and could really use a team. He instantly knows what Greedling needs, not what he says he wants. Hell, there’s something they both want from this Father asshole opening the Gate: it only makes sense to join forces.
It stops Greedling in his tracks. We then realize that it is not the fact that Ed sees through Greed like he’s saran wrap which bothers him so deeply (”This dickbag obviously wants friends”). Greed’s immediate reaction to Ed’s proposal, and ultimate motivator in his decision to isolate himself, is based in fear.
Fear of loss.
What does the douchebag do? He deflects, obviously, laughing it off like a jackass (although it appears he is still somewhat pained) until he resorts to his number one coping mechanism:
His identity.“This is who I am.” Look at him! He’s got goals and everything! He’s reminding himself just as much as Edward that, um, he’s Greed the Avaricious, thank you very much. Working alone for Greed obviously has nothing to do with being afraid. No one is going to disrupt his narrative – not even his memories, and certainly not the crushing sense of loss deep within him. Not the emptiness, the loneliness, or the futility of his ambitions. Nothing.
We then realize Greed’s existence itself is cruel. Father brought into consciousness a being that would always, always be searching… for something he can never find. Every time Greed has been brave enough to reach out for something, it is taken from him. Every time Greed has something, he can only anticipate having more of it or feel the fear of potential loss. No matter how much Greed has, it will always feel like nothing.
And what is greed itself other than a sin of anticipation? I need more of this now, I need to keep it for the future, I need, I need, I need… there is no power or control, only desperation and the expectation of despair. He expects that if he teams up with Ed, Ragtag, and Bobtail, that he’ll lose them.
Greed has not known and will never know contentment or peace, even though he could if he were willing to admit that his motivations are much more simple than accumulation of worldly goods – if he could let go of his identity and allow his friends to connect with him. He turns down Ed because he doesn’t want yet another group of affiliates to fall victim to the homunculi… he’s afraid of the future and he’s sad about the past.
